Strimbold Trial Moved To Smithers
Former Burns Lake Mayor Luke Strimbold is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Smithers next month, in connection with two dozen sex-related charges.
Counsel for both the defence and prosecution appeared via teleconference in Burns Lake this morning, where a judge approved moving the case to Smithers for a May 15th appearance.
The 28-year-old Strimbold was arrested and then released in early February, although news of the charges only came to light a month later.
The charges involve incidents alleged to have happened between 2015 and 2017.
In early March, the BC Prosecution Service appointed Vancouver lawyer Leonard Doust as special prosecutor in the case, to avoid any accusations of improper influence.
Strimbold was mayor of Burns Lake from 2011 to 2016, and then became membership chair of the BC Liberal Party -- a position he resigned as the charges became public.
