Terrace to Host Rotary District Conference in 2020

For the first time since 2002, Terrace will be the site of Rotary International's District 5040 Conference.

The 2020 district conference will be hosted by the Terrace and Terrace-Skeena Valley Clubs, with between 250 and 300 Rotarians from across western BC coming to the city.

Incoming Terrace club President Chad Sallenback says the district governor that year will be one-time Terrace resident Dave Hamilton, who insisted that his former hometown take its turn in the spotlight.

"It'll bring a lot of people to bolster our economy for sure, but it allows us to show the rest of the province -- people that may not have been able to come to town, to Terrace, to see our community and many venues that we have to offer, at a time where our Prince Rupert neighbour club is having their 100th anniversary of being a charter club," Sallenback said.

Prince Rupert hosted the District Conference in 2010.

District 5040 includes Rotary clubs from Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, as well as Kamloops, the Cariboo, Prince George and the Northwest.
