The District of Port Edward Breaks Ground for New Senior Housing Development

After two years of planning, the District of Port Edward's housing mandate is coming into fruition.

On Tuesday Minister Selina Robinson along wtih MLA Jennifer Rice and the town's Mayor Dave MacDonald broke ground for the community's new senior's housing development.

District of Port Edward Mayor Dave MacDonald says this project offers new options to locals who may have considered leaving the area.

``I just feel this is important to our community. For one thing, senior`s who may want to stay in Port Edward and feel they can`t, there is now going to be an opportunity for them.``

The new property will include 8 units of affordable living space to be built next to the grounds of the municipal building.

``We picked a place where the senior`s house is going, its close to our elementary school. We hope there is interaction between the senior`s and school because seniors always love to be around elderly people.` continued  MacDonald.

The complex will be managed by Transition House and be funded by the province with the town leasing the land.

Construction is set to begin later this month and be completed by December 2018.
