Thieves Steal $10,000 Worth of Equipment From Shames Mtn

Terrace RCMP are investigating a weekend break-in at Shames Mountain, which netted thieves over $10,000 worth of equipment.

According to a post on Facebook, ski hill general manager Christian Theberge says someone broke into the maintenance shop and generator building, and took a Fluke power meter, three flat screen TV's, a Maximum Master Craft half-inch cordless impact drill and a set of winter tires on rims.

Some handheld radios were also taken.

Theberge says the crooks also stole all the battery leads to the hill's generators, along with all the electrical grounding wire.

He says the thefts come at a critical time, as My Mountain Co-op was just beginning the replacement of the hill's drive bullwheel.

Theberge says stealing from a non profit community Cooperative is like stealing a swing from a playground.

He's urging anyone with information to contact the RCMP.
