ThriveNorth Business Challenge offers $35,000 in prize money

Northern British Columbian residents are again being given the opportunity to win funding for their business start-ups. Hosted by Futurpreneur Canada the ThriveNorth Business Challenge is back for a fifth year and organizers want to hear from young entrepreneurs. The Business Challenge gives new and aspiring business owners the opportunity to showcase their original ideas for a chance to win up to $10,000 and make their dream a reality. Community Coordinator, Marco Gordon spoke about the event and the available categories.

"So there is three main categories; so who can convince the judges that their business is the best growth opportunity. The new business category for entrepreneurs aged 18 to 28 and then there's the new business category for entrepreneurs aged 29 to 39. So each prize category has $10,000 and then we have one prize which is the people's choice out of all the finalists, who do the people think should win the $5,000 prize."

After receiving all applications, the judges determine the 24 semi-finalists; the entrepreneurs will then pitch their idea, allowing the judges to narrow down the competition to 4 finalists from each category.

"And those finals are happening in Terrace on May 6th and 7th. We will be doing some more releases as far as getting the public interested in coming out and supporting the entrepreneurs."

Gordon encourages applicants to apply, no matter what stage of planning their business might be in.

"Even if you've got just the idea, you don't have to have a business started. If you've got a great idea and you can articulate that idea and you can convince judges that you should with that prize money go and start this business. Then I say apply, right I mean the application process is one step of many but it's the first step and if you can take the first step you have no idea where it could go."

If you are considering entering your business idea, you might want to hurry up and apply as the closing date for application acceptance is March 20th. Click the link below to apply!
