Northern Health Announces New Registration Program

Northern Health has announced the launch of a new registration program for patients at hospitals and health centres.

Right now.. the hospital in Prince George is the only facility that has registration clerks working 24-hours a day.

In other places, nursing staff register after-hours patients, once they've been assessed or triaged.

But beginning this month, after-hours patients in Burns Lake, Smithers, Houston, Hazelton and Kitimat can automatically connect with registration nurses remotely using a video phone.

Northern Health says the change will allow clinical staff to focus on patient care.

Twenty-seven-thousand emergency department patients used the system during a pilot project.

In May, it will be added in Terrace, Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii, Stewart and Dease Lake.
