Port of Prince Rupert's Don Krusel Retires

Big news from the Port of Prince Rupert today.

Port Authority President and CEO Don Krusel has announced his retirement after leading the organization for 25 years.

The Port is describing Krusel as a visionary.

During his tenure, the Fairview Container Terminal was built and expanded, as well as a number of other projects, including the cruise ship terminal, wood pellet terminal and new infrastructure on Ridley Island.

Port Authority Board Chair Bud Smith says Krusel saw the need for an innovative gateway model that could benefit trade between Canada and Asia, and he led the way in sharing his vision about how Prince Rupert could accomplish that.

Chief Financial Officer Joe Rektor will be assuming the role of interim President and CEO, effective immediately.

There will be a search for Mr. Krusel's replacement.
