Prince Rupert Toastmasters Recognized By International Group

Prince Rupert's Toastmasters Group has been recognized by the International Committee that oversees all of the groups worldwide.

The local group was honoured with the President's Distinguished Club Status.

The achievement was made by meeting a number of goals.

Prince Rupert Toastmasters' outgoing president Michal Sluka says it's great to see the club in Prince Rupert get acknowledged by the International Toastmasters Group.

"Seeing it to be accomplished was a great experience and great learning curve. What we've done, is identified some of the members as there is two different tracks. There's a leadership track and communication track. Each member has to meet those goals. In communication track, you need to deliver 10 speeches. In the leadership track, there are 10 different categories and different sub-goals that the member has to do throughout the toastmaster's year."

Toastmasters aim to provide a safe space for anyone wishing to improve their leadership and communication skills.

The club says they've had over 70 speeches presented since September.

Sluka says their goal is to expand even further as they move forward.
