Terrace Riverkings Take CIHL Championship

In the CIHL finals this past weekend, the Terrace Riverkings faced off against the Williams Lake Stampeders once again.

Down one in the best-of-three tournament, the Riverkings played for their life on Saturday night, in what Captain Stephen Cullis called a wild game that went to triple overtime:

“Definitely the longest game I’ll ever play in. Started off pretty good, back and forth with the two teams. Then in the third they took a two-goal lead with seven minutes left. But we scored two right away after that, to send it to overtime. And that overtime was quite wild, it went back and forth, they hit a few posts, we hit a few posts, and then we ended up scoring the winner in the third overtime”.

The team then went on to play the Sunday night final, and defeated the Stampeders 2-1 to become the CIHL Playoff Champions.

Goalie Jared Rathjen was awarded Playoff MVP.

The team is now gearing up to represent Terrace in the Provincial Coy Cup in Whitehorse March 28th – April 1st, where they will face off against teams from North Island, Kelowna, and Whitehorse.
