Boal is a McGill University graduate. With the intention of pursuing a career in print journalism, she subsequently attended Algonquin College, which created an opportunity to get into the radio business.

Boal started at Newstalk 580 CFRA in 1994 and spent several years working in the newsroom and doing morning news on what is now Ottawa’s New Country 94. Highlights included covering the Federal referendum vote in Montreal in 1995 and the Paul Bernardo murder trial in Toronto that same year. She did sideline reporting for CFRA's Ottawa Rough Rider broadcasts. In the late 90s, she hosted the Rogers TV show Overtime with co-host James Cybulski, while continuing to work in radio.  In 1999, Patricia began covering the Senators and Canadiens for what was then Headline Sports (The Score). She was later hired as The Score TV Network's first Ottawa/Montreal bureau reporter. For two seasons Boal also hosted Sens pay per view games as part of the SENSTV crew. She covered the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil for the Olympic broadcast consortium, the 2012 London Olympics for the Olympic News Channel,  the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, as well as the youth Olympics in Singapore.

Boal is active in the community, serving as honourary board member for STRIDE assistance for the disabled. She and her daughter do volunteer work at the Ottawa Mission.
