Conservation authority reports high levels in Lake Ontario and Lake Erie

Officials with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority are keeping a close eye on the waters as Lake Erie reaches historic levels.

Right now, Erie is sitting at 71 cm above average, that's 3 cm above the record high of May 1985.

Levels are expected to peak in late May or early June.

Meanwhile, Lake Ontario is currently at 47 cm above average, but still 40 cm below the record high of May 2017.

Experts warn strong winds could mean storm surge and localized flooding.
