McCarthy steps down as Rapids' head coach
Sandy McCarthy will not be returning behind the bench next season as head coach of the Grand Falls Rapids.
The team says in a press release that McCarthy brought some great experience, and was a mentor to his players both on and off the ice.
No reason was given for the move, but a press release quotes McCarthy as saying he regrets the decision but wishes the players and the organization the best of luck for the future.
The former NHLer joined the Woodstock Slammers in 2015 before becoming head coach of the team.
He continued in that role this season after the franchise moved to Grand Falls.
The team says a decision on a replacement has not yet been made.
