Man sentenced to jail time for hunting moose out of season

A northern New Brunswick man will spend his next few weekends behind bars for hunting a moose out of season.

Billy Theriault, 24, of Saint-Quentin pleaded guilty to the charge last fall after conservation officers received reports of gunshots and located Theriault and another man with the dead animal.

The judge gave Theriault the minimum seven-day sentence, along with a $1,200 fine.

He'll serve his sentence on weekends at the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre.
