New stop sign catching Grand Falls drivers by surprise

A new stop sign in the town of Grand Falls seems to be catching a lot of people off guard.

The yield sign on E.H. Daigle Boulevard at Main Street was replaced with a stop sign by the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure last week.

But Grand Falls police Chief Suzanne Themens told our newsroom Monday that many drivers are unaware of the change, and are entering Main Street without stopping.

Themens said the town was aware of the upcoming change, but was not told when it would happen, leaving them without time to warn the public.

She said her officers will be making spotchecks at the intersection in an effort to draw attention to the change.
