YMCAs Move to Give program exceeds fundraising goal

More than 17-hundred people from across Simcoe-Muskoka and Parry Sound took part in the fifth annual YMCA "Move to Give" fundraising event, and with the help of the YMCA child care centres and school aged programs, the event doubled the goal, raising over $200,000!

Each year Move to Give raises the much needed funds to support the growing need of the communities they serve. The event was held simultaneously on April 6th at the eight YMCA facilities in our region - Barrie, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland, Orillia and Parry Sound - as well as 76 child care centres/school age programs.

Participants, challenged themselves through 5km runs, indoor cycling sessions, swimming challenges, fire truck pulls and more.

Over the past five years Move to Give has raised over $500,000 and brought together thousands of people across Simcoe/Muskoka – all working towards achieving the same goal – building healthier communities.

Move to Give not only raises funds to provide members in need with over one million dollars in financial assistance each year, it also raises awareness about the YMCA’s programs, services
and impact on the community, while inspiring healthy, active living.

“The success of Move to Give has a huge impact on the communities we serve. From developing health initiatives that target diseases such as cancer and heart disease, to improving childhood obesity, literacy, social isolation, youth outreach and more – the money raised through Move to Give directly translates into more resources in our community,” said Shelley.

The YMCA would like to thank this year's sponsors:
Presenting sponsor was Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities. Communitysponsors included Collingwood Dental Centre, GerardBuckley.ca Mortgage Agent – Mortgage Wellness, and Push Promotional Product and Design.
