Arrests Made After Robbery in Hanmer

 

Around 6:30 a.m. on September 3, 2018, two men broke into a residence on Addy Street in Hanmer by forcing open a window. The men took various items from the home including money, bank cards, electronics and equipment. They proceeded to flee the scene in a vehicle.

Police were called and Officers initiated an investigation into the matter.

On September 4, 2018, shortly after 2:00 a.m. the men attended a gas station on Regent Street in Greater Sudbury and attempted to use one of the stolen bank cards from the residence. Uniform Officers attended the gas station and were able to obtain descriptions of the men.

At 9:50 p.m. members of the Break Enter and Robbery (B.E.A.R.) Unit arrested both men outside of an establishment in Lively. Upon searching the men, Detectives found American money that is believed to have been taken from the previously mentioned Break and Enter.

As a result of the investigation, members of the Integrated Crime Team with assistance from the Tactical Unit conducted a Search Warrant on the residence of one of the men, as well as, the vehicle used to flee the scene of the Break and Enter. Multiple items from the Break and Enter were recovered as a result of the Search Warrant.

The two men, both 22-years old have been arrested and charged with various offences under the Criminal Code of Canada including Break and Enter, Possession of a Credit Card, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

The men were held in Police custody and will be attending Bail Court today to answer to the charges.

The names of the men cannot be released at this time as information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
