Power RESTORED in Coniston

Update: Power RESTORED

The lights are back on in Coniston...
It was a lengthy outage yesterday, which began around 4 in the morning.  The outage affected a little over 900 Sudbury Hydro customers, and was caused by a Hydro One transmission line which fell to the ground.  The line happened to be a bush area, which made access difficult for crews, and therefore restoration a little later than expected.  Most customers had their power back on by around 2 yesterday afternoon.  Sudbury Hydro crews helped whereever possible, and the City set up mobile warming stations for those affected by the outage.

As of 3pm, HydroOne has restored power for community members in Coniston.

There is currently no power at the two schools in Coniston: école Notre-Dame de la Merci and St. Paul.

School buses will run as usual, and the two schools will remain open, however, parents are advised that there currently no heat in the schools.

Cause now confirmed on HydroOne equipment.

Their crews are taking over the restoration effort and they project 11am ETR.

(In the bush=deep snow).

Original Story:

Power outage affecting ALL of Coniston.

Began around 3:50am and crews have been at it since.

It will not be resolved for a few more hours as the prob appears to be in the bush between the town site & Transformer station on 44Kv line where bucket trucks can't go.

ETR 9am at best.
