31 Year-old Woman Arrested After Dangerous Driving Incident in Hanmer

Just before 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, Sudbury Police received multiple calls regarding a black sedan being driven erratically in the area of Main Street in Hanmer. The woman driving the vehicle struck a bridge and another vehicle and almost hit a pedestrian. She was also seen running multiple red lights at a very high rate of speed. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of her actions.

Officers immediately attended the area in an attempt to locate the car and the driver.

The vehicle was found abandoned on St. Anthony Street.

A member of the K9 Unit attended the area in order to conduct a track. At the same time, Uniform Officers were patrolling the area, as well as, inside the Hanmer Mall.

While tracking the woman, additional information was received that a person matching her description could be seen sleeping inside a store located in the mall.

At 9:00 a.m. Officers attended the store and arrested a 31-year old woman.

Once at Police Headquarters, the woman was given a breath test that she failed.

 

She has been charged with the following offences:

-Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

-Over 80

-Dangerous Driving x2

-Theft Over $5,000

-Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

-Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident x2

During the investigation it was also learned that the vehicle she was driving was stolen from in front of a convenience store just prior to the calls coming into our Communications Centre.

Her name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the Court process.
