Sudbury OPP Reminding Drivers to Watch for Wildlife
In the past 3 weeks, OPP (Sudbury) have responded to 7 collisions involving wildlife.
The highways involved were 17, 69, 64, 144 and 575 within Greater Sudbury, French River, Markstay-Warren and West Nipissing, Ontario.
The collisions involved either a deer, moose or smaller wildlife.
The collisions occurred at all hours of the day including 4 after dark and 3 in daylight.
The OPP is reminding the public that wildlife is as happy to see Spring as the rest of us, out and about, sometimes near highways for the new forage and road salt left over from winter conditions.
Wildlife will continue to be a concern as summer approaches. Open spaces like highways provide relief from biting insects.
Scan the sides of the road and reduce your speed, this will significantly increase your reaction time.
