A.F.M.N.B. wants commitment from province to eliminate barriers for communities wishing to merge
The New Brunswick Associations of Francophone Municipalities is calling on the province to commit to eliminating barriers to communities wishing to amalgamate.
This after voters in local service districts decided against joining forces with Rogersville in Monday's by-election and a defeated attempt at forming a Lameque-Miscou community in 2017.
But AFMNB president and Petit-Rocher mayor Luc Desjardins says people who voted 'no' aren't to be blamed.
Desjardins tells the Acadie-Nouvelle that each time the subject of amalgamation comes up citizens worry about tax increases and zoning regulations.
He says amalgamation is crucial to the development of the province, communities, and for services in rural areas.
