Acadie-Bathurst Titan climbs to first in Maritimes Division
It was a big weekend for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
The Titan's winning weekend kicked off in Saint John on Friday with a 6 - 4 victory over the Sea Dogs.
Then on Saturday, a sold-out crowd of 3,524 hockey fans watched the Titan edge the Halifax Mooseheads 3 - 2 in a nationally televised game.
Jeff Viel, Justin Ducharme, and German Rubtsov each found the back of the Mooseheads net once while netminder Evan Fitzpatrick made 27 saves.
Viel, Fitzpatrick, and Adam Holwell were named First, Second, and Third Stars of the Game respectively.
Head coach Mario Pouliot tells the Acadie-Nouvelle that his players showed a lot of character on Saturday, but adds they missed a few scoring opportunities.
Pouliot like's the level of competition and says it's important to play good hockey against good teams at this point in the season.
He says there are still a few tweaks to make ahead of the playoffs.
The Titan now leads the Maritimes Division and is in second place overall, two points ahead of Rimouski and Halifax.
Only three regular season games remain, with the Titan playing its final home game of the season on Wednesday against the ninth place Charlottetown Islanders.
