Air quality approval renewed for Connors Bros. Clover Leaf Seafoods Co.
The provincial government says it will issue a new Class 1 air quality approval for Connors Bros. Clover Leaf Seafoods Co. for two plants in Blacks Harbour.
The Department of Environment and Local Government says the approval is for the company's fish processing plant (Plant #10) and fishmeal plant (Plant #21).
In a press release, the government says the facility smokes and cans herring in Plant #10 and uses herring waste to produce finished fishmeal product for use in agriculture and aquaculture feeds in Plant #21, both of which are in the same building.
The province says the company's new approval follows a public consultation that ran between October 15, 2018 and February 12, 2019 and takes effect April 15, a day after the current approval expires on April 14.
Class 1 industrial facilities are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act, and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
