Atlantic premiers talk health care issues ahead of Council of the Federation meeting

Atlantic premiers met early today prior to the annual meeting of the Council of the Federation to talk health care issues and energy transmission.

Premiers Stephen McNeil, of Nova Scotia; Dwight Ball, of Newfoundland and Labrador; Blaine Higgs, of New Brunswick; and Dennis King, of Prince Edward Island are at the meeting in Saskatoon.

The premiers say in a release that Canada's population is aging and this has put a major strain on the health system in the Atlantic region.

They are calling on Ottawa to increase health care funding to address the impact of the region's aging population, and are asking Ottawa to consult over a potential national pharmacare system.
