Bas-Caraquet's mayor resigns

The mayor of Bas-Caraquet is calling it quits after nearly a decade in office.

Agnes Doiron was first elected in 2008 and says she's accomplished all she set out to do since her re-election in 2016, including the reopening of the New Brunswick Naval Centre and job creation.

She says it's now time to give the younger generation a shot at office.

Doiron's resignation comes two weeks after the immediate resignation of councillor Anne-Marie Jourdain.

Deputy Mayor Roger R. Chiasson will assume the mayor's duties.
