Bathurst community honours the late Jessica Ryan

A former municipal politician and local historian was honoured over the weekend.

Approximately 80 people turned out to the Bathurst Heritage Museum on Friday night to pay tribute to the late Jessica Ryan.

Ryan, who was a founding member of the museum, passed away in March and Friday would have been her 85th birthday.

Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission president Nancy Culligan-Brunner tells the Northern Light the museum wouldn't exist today had it not been for Ryan's hard work and dedication.

Organizers plan to hold 'Jessica Ryan Day' annually and that a wall dedicated to Ryan is expected to complete by the event's second edition next spring.

Ryan held several titles, however that of 'Registered Nurse' was the one she treasured most.

She was also the first Nursing Manager of the Extra Mural program, a teacher at the Bathurst School of Nursing, a member of the Order of New Brunswick and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship distinction.
