Bathurst Diocese argues insurance company should cover payments stemming from conciliation process
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bathurst was in front of New Brunswick's Court of Appeals on Wednesday arguing that millions of dollars it paid to victims of sexual abuse should be covered by its insurance policy.
A conciliation process in 2010 resulted in over $4.2 million being paid to victims and resulted in the Diocese launching a law suite in 2012 to recover some of the funds.
The insurance company argues it shouldn't have to cover the payments because they were made voluntarily through the process.
No date has been given for the decision.
