Bathurst honours dedication of its many volunteers
The City of Bathurst honoured its many volunteers last night with its annual Volunteer Recognition Night.
Mark Lavigne of the Fudoshin Judo Club was presented with the volunteer of the year award for his work with local youth.
Lavigne says it feels great to have been recognized with award, especially when so many local groups and individuals are so deserving of it as well.
He says he's 'just a guy who gives a few hours a day to some kids that need it' and that the award reaffirms that he's reaching people and making a difference in their lives.
Lavigne adds the city has been incredibly supportive of his endeavours.
Councillor Lee Stever meanwhile, says it's important the city shows its appreciation to its volunteers because they're the heart of the community.
