Bathurst keeps status quo regarding Halloween
It will be the status quo in Bathurst for Halloween.
At its regular public meeting on Monday, August 21st, council voted to keep a controversial bylaw that sets an age limit of 14 years or younger and a cut off time of 7pm for door-to-door activities.
Absent from the meeting were councillors Katherine Lanteigne and Kim Chamberlain who each voted in favour of rescinding the bylaw at the motion's first and second readings.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie says he had expected to hear from more youth on the matter but adds most of the feedback he received was from older citizens.
Fongemie says there have not been any reported incidents of fines issued since the bylaw was put on the books more than a decade ago.
