Bathurst Legion shutters building after more than 50 years

After more than 50 years at its St. Peter Ave. location, the Herman J. Good VC Branch No. 18 Legion has handed the keys to the building over to its new owner.

Membership has dwindled from about 600 members to around 200 over the years.

First vice-president Graham Wiseman says the building is too large to maintain and operate, and no longer suits the organization's needs.

Wiseman says a new location has been found, but is keeping it under wraps until the paper work is finalized.

The Legion is still considering the historic 'Old Post Office' as a location for its popular War Museum, however Wiseman says another option is the Legion's new location.
