Bathurst mayor and MLA unveil plans for commemorative Canada 150 park in downtown area
Bathurst's proposal for a commemorative Canada 150 project has been approved.
Bathurst-East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore MLA Denis Landry and mayor Paolo Fongemie unveiled plans for a commemorative park at the corner of King Ave. and Main Street.
The park will feature a walkway with 150 planks, each representing a a significant event in Canada's history.
The $150,000 for the project comes from a provincial program aimed at commemorating the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
Fongemie says beatification efforts downtown needed to move eastwards and that it may help attract developers for nearby properties affected by a devastating fire back in 2015.
He expects the park to be ready by next summer.
