Bathurst's mayor to vote in favour of regional police force
Bathurst's mayor will vote in favour of a single regional police force when the Chaleur Regional Service Commission meets this week.
Council gave Mayor Paolo Fongemie the green light on Monday night.
Fongemie says he looks forward to meeting with the province on the matter, but adds there's still lots of administrative work to be done before the new force's officers hit the streets.
If approved, Fongemie says the new regional police force could be operational within two years years.
There are currently three separate police forces in the Chaleur Region: The Bathurst Police Force, BNPP, and RCMP.
