Bathurst's mayor welcomes newest councillor, weighs in on voter turnout in byelection
Bathurst City Council is welcoming its newest member.
Jeff Glendenning won Monday's byelection to claim the seat left vacant earlier this year when Bernie Cormier resigned to take a job with Opportunities New Brunswick.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie says council looks forward to working with Glendenning to continue developing the city as an economic and tourist destination.
Meanwhile, Fongemie says voter turnout shows an enhanced interest by citizens in their municipality.
19 and-a-half per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in Bathurst on Monday, higher than the provincial turnout of 17.31 per cent.
