Bathurst triathlete goes pro

A Bathurst triathlete has decided to go pro.

37-year-old Lee Roy made the decision earlier this week after mulling it over for the past few years.

Roy says the move means lots of extra pressure, something he says is a big motivator.

He says he'll now be competing against other professionals rather than his personal bests.

Along with stiffer competition comes more training and Roy is expected to up his regime from 18 to 22 hours a week to 30 to 32 hours.

He already has a packed schedule for the 2019 season which includes competitions in BC, Quebec, Niagra Falls, and, of course, the Chaleur Triathlon slated for July.
