Beresford approves pay raise for mayor and councillors
Beresford council has voted to give itself a pay-raise.
The motion was approved at Beresford's regular council meeting on Monday.
The town's mayor will now make $75 per meeting, up from the previous $50, while councillors' pay increases from $40 to $60.
For meetings exceeding four hours in length council members will be paid $20 an hour instead.
Mayor Jean-Guy Grant says the raise comes following recommendations stemming from a study by the New Brunswick Association of Francophone Municipalities.
Grant notes the new pay rate is still bellow what other municipal politicians are paid in the province.
