Brantville man facing multiple charges after callers report dangerous driver
Tracadie RCMP say they have arrested a man who refused to stop for police, following multiple reports of dangerous driving from members of the public.
Police say around 9:00 p.m. on June 3, several motorists traveling on Highway 11 near Tracadie called 911 to report a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and passing cars illegally.
Officers located and attempted to pull over the car but the driver refused to stop for police.
RCMP say a spike belt was deployed but they were still not able to intercept the vehicle, which then struck an RCMP vehicle and continued on before it came to a stop after striking a fence and a tree.
Police say the 23-year-old man from Brantville who was driving the car fled on foot but was arrested a short time later.
On June 4, Tommy Comeau appeared in court and was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, impaired driving, assault with a weapon (a motor vehicle), refusal to comply with demand for a breath sample and two counts of resisting arrest.
RCMP say Comeau is also facing five violations under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act.
Police say Comeau was remanded into custody and is expected to return to court on June 10 for a bail hearing.
