Brutal storm traps Bas-Caraquet couple on Route 180 for 17 hours

An Acadian Peninsula couple say they won't travel Route 180 in the winter again after becoming stuck on their way home from Montreal.

57 year old Sylvie Laramee, her 63 year old husband Antonin Doucet, and their two dogs spent 17 hours stuck in a snow drift on the Resources Road as a nasty storm pounded the area with high winds and snow Thursday night.

The car battery eventually died and Laramee tells the Northern Light she wasn't sure if they would survive.

The Bas-Caraquet couple were eventually found by a snowplow operator Friday morning and taken to safety by the driver of a tow truck.

Police say it's the longest somebody has been stranded on that stretch in two winters.
