Campbellton Chamber of Commerce president resigns

The president of the Campbellton Chamber of Commerce resigned earlier this week after he was unable to convince Restigouche region mayors that amalgamation is the key to the region's future.

Regis Maltais says he resigned on Tuesday so as not to damage relationships between the Chamber and local municipalities.

With the region's dwindling population, Maltais says eight municipal buildings, eight mayors and 40 councillors is a big expense to serve 22,000 people.

He hopes that by planting the seed perhaps members of the Restigouche Regional Service Commission will eventually change the way things are done.
