Canada's top court to rule on Dennis Oland's bid for bail this week

(CP) - The Supreme Court of Canada is to rule on Thursday, March 23rd, on whether New Brunswick courts were wrong to deny Dennis Oland's bid for bail while he appealed his second-degree murder conviction.

Canada's highest court decided to hear the case even though Oland was eventually released on bail after his murder conviction in the death of his father, Richard Oland, was overturned on appeal and a new trial ordered last October.

The key issue in the case is when convicted killers should be granted bail pending appeal.
