Canadian arrested after bomb threat on Amsterdam airport
Police in Amsterdam are interrogating a 51-year-old Canadian man after he allegedly claimed he had a bomb.
Border police spokeswoman Joanna Helmonds says the incident occurred last evening at around 7:15 local time in one of the airport's departure halls.
She says authorities are still trying to figure out what his motive was.
Helmonds says the man reported that he had a bomb in his luggage that was set to go off but fortunately none was found in his luggage.
But she points out it's a very serious threat.
Helmonds says the departure hall at Schiphol Airport was evacuated for about half an hour as a precaution, but was later reopened after the arrest.
The Canadian is facing charges in connection to making a false bomb report and so far police have not released his name or home province.
