Canadian Food Inspection Agency issues tahini recall

Three brands of tahini products are being recalled after an investigation by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency into a foodborne illness outbreak.

Achva and S&F brand tahini products, as well as The Chef's Warehouse Soom brand tahini products are being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination.

The recalled Achva products are listed below:

-- 500g Organic Tahini; LOT 18-099 (UPC 7 290000 572786)
-- 500g Tahini; LOT 18-106 (UPC 8 14968 02002 0)
-- 500g Whole Tahini; LOT 18-106 (UPC 8 14968 02003 7)
-- 500g Seasoned Tahini; LOT 18-128 (UPC 7 290000 572123)
-- 500g Tahini - Crushed Sesame Seeds; LOT 18-130 (UPC 7 290000 572109)
-- 18kg Tahini; LOT 18-106 (UPC 7 290000 572116)

The recalled S&F brand products are listed below:
-- 18kg Pure Tahini; LOT 18-099 (UPC 7 290000 572116)

The recalled Soom products are listed below:
-- 340g Chocolate Sweet Tahini Halva Spread; 071318CH (UPC 7 91154 34932 8)
-- 454g Sesame Premium Tahini; 18-109, 18-121 & 18-123 (UPC 7 18088 34741 1)
-- 39.6 lbs Sesame Premium Tahini; 18-109, 18-121 & 18-123 (UPC 7 18088 34732 9)

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says there have been illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, and warns that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but it can make you sick.

The agency says if you have any of the recalled products to either discard them or return them to where they were purchased.
