Canadian military ready to help with New Brunswick flooding, says Defence Minister

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan said the military is ready to help flood victims in New Brunswick if asked to respond.

The offer came yesterday as New Brunswick's Emergency Measures Organization issued warnings that flooding is expected to continue along the Saint John River from Fredericton down to the Saint John area for at least the next five days.

It says levels could top those beyond the 2008 and 1973 floods and residents along the river's southern reaches should be ``on high alert.''

Saint John fire Chief Kevin Clifford says the water could rise to 6.6 metres above sea level on Sunday.

Water levels are so high that Saint John's famous Reversing Falls are not reversing.
