The Canadian Red Cross says they are helping a family of four after a fire damaged a basement apartment of a bungalow in Moncton early Wednesday evening.

Volunteers have assisted a couple and two children with emergency lodging, food and clothing purchases and other basics.

The aid agency says the woman was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation and was released a short time later.

No other injuries were reported.
