Cancer treatment too complicated for NB surgeons, patient says
A New Brunswick woman with cancer of the esophagus says she has to travel to Toronto for treatment because the procedure is too complicated for local surgeons.
Eileen Shaw received her cancer diagnosis over two months ago and requires a thoracic surgeon to remove the tumour.
She finally located a thoracic surgeon in Moncton who could take the case, but was told the surgery was too difficult and would need to be referred to Toronto.
Her family says they will need to raise funds to cover her stay in Toronto, which could cost up to 10-thousand dollars.
