Candidate for N.B. Liberal leadership drops from race

One of two candidates vying for the leadership of New Brunswick's Liberal Party has dropped out of the race.

Rene Ephestion of Moncton was the first to join the race to replace former leader Brian Gallant.

He announced in a Facebook post earlier this week he would not be seeking the leadership, leaving former Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers as the sole remaining candidate.

Ephestion didn't say why he dropped out of the race, but wished Vickers luck and said he would continue sharing his ideas and vision with the Liberal Party.

Bathurst-East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore MLA Denis Landry was chosen to lead the Liberals on an interim basis in February.

The party will elect its permanent leader at its convention in Saint John this summer.
