Caraquet senator to chair Standing Committee on Official Languages

An independent senator from Caraquet will chair the Senate's Standing Committee on Official Languages.

Rene Cormier was first sworn into the Red Chamber in 2016 and has been a member of the official languages committee since January.

Cormier is recognized across Canada as being a community and language rights leader.

He says he's pleased to assume the committee presidency as it aims to make Canada's Official Languages Act an effective legislative device aimed at meeting the present challenges and realities of the country's linguistic duality.
