City approves funding, support for historic Doucet-Hennessy House

It came right down to the wire, but the Doucet-Hennessy House Association has received the support it asked for from the City of Bathurst to help restore the historic building.

The association was trying to apply for a grant to help repair and restore the building, but it required at least a $2,500 in-kind donation and letter of support from the city by Thursday.

The association was advised of the city's decision on Tuesday.

Mayor Paolo Fongemie tells the Northern Light that the city recognizes the 19th century building as a municipal heritage site and that the association's request was approved on the condition it secures additional funds for the project.

Association president Melynda Jarratt says she's pleased the city recognized the project's merit.
