Closure of Bathurst convenience store leaves bus company looking for new location
The upcoming closure of a local convenience store has left Maritime Bus scrambling to find a new location.
The move comes after its current location, Sermax announced it was closing its doors effecting this Friday.
Maritime Bus president Mike Cassidy says the closure is expected to complicate ticket sales but adds passengers can still purchase tickets at the Miramichi stop or on-line until a new Bathurst location is found.
Sermax, which is located at the corner of St. Anne Street and Evangeline Drive, shuts down on Friday.
Owner Normand Mourant tells the Northern Light that the decision to close is mostly due to a lack of staff.
Cassidy says representatives from his company are in the region this week hunting for a new location.
He says ridership in Northern New Brunswick has been relatively stable, between 12 and 15 passengers per day, since Maritime Bus extended service to the area in 2013.
