Contraband seized at Dorchester Penitentiary
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) says tobacco and rolling papers were seized by staff on September 1.
In a release, the prison service says, correctional staff at the minimum-security unit intercepted an inmate who was attempting to bring unauthorized items into the institution.
CSC says the seizure is a result of the combined efforts of correctional staff/detector-dog team/security intelligence officers.
The items seized include 42 bales of tobacco and two boxes of rolling papers.
The release states CSC is heightening measures to permit unauthorized items from entering its institutions to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone, working in partnership with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
A complete smoking ban was introduced at CSC institutions in 2008.
