Delay in appointing new Provincial Court Judge in Miramichi affecting citizens, local judge says

A provincial court judge in Miramichi is hoping the use of travelling judges in the northern part of the province is just a temporary solution.

There's one such judge acting as a supernumerary out of Miramichi, but Judge Geri Mahoney tells the Miramichi Leader that he could be working anywhere in the province on any given day.

Mahoney says a delay in appointing another full-time judge is having an impact on the lives of citizens, and notes that a judge presided over hearings for one day last month over the phone from a Moncton court room.

Mahoney says a new judge was expected to be named in the early part of 2017, however that appointment has yet to be made by the Department of Justice and Public Safety.
