Education council adopts unilingual school bus policy

The Francophone North East School District Education Council says it's against bilingual school buses.

The council adopted an official policy pertaining to student transportation earlier this week.

Chair Ghislaine Foulem says the board felt it important to have a solid policy ensuring bilingual transportation within the district would not be allowed under any circumstances.

The issue of bilingual school buses made headlines in 2015 when former NDP leader Dominic Cardy suggested it would be a way to get the job done while trimming the budget.

In 2016 the provincial government decided to leave transportation policies up to individual school districts.
